Good recipes for tofu?

I have never eaten tofu but have recently been trying to eat healthier foods. I purchased some tofu and thought that I would go online and find some recipes but everything I find is VERY difficult and requires all kinds of herbs, spices, and other weird various things. I am just looking for a basic easy to make recipe to see if I like tofu...thanks in advance for any answers.Good recipes for tofu?
my favorite way of eating tofu is sliced it in about half inches thin, cook it on flat frying pan the way you'd cook a over medium egg with veg oil. sprinkle lightly with salt while cook it to light golden brown on both side.

It's good with any of your favorite sauce too.

If you do eat meat, it makes a great meat loaf also, just cut the meat in half amount, and replaced it with tofu, and mixed it with your usual seasons. You can use it as stuffing to any veges also.

Good luck and hope you'll enjoy it.Good recipes for tofu?

Congratulations! You've joined the Tofu Circle! I just tried cooking with tofu over the summer and find it to be an inexpensive meat alternative.

Tofu DOES require lots of spices because it tastes like paste by itself! The below site has some ideas, but one of my favorites is to cut it into cubes, grill it in a skillet with garlic, pepper, and oregano, and serve it over a salad. That way, whatever dressing you use can also lend some flavor.

It's also good with soy sauce and barbecue sauce.

Good luck!
you should by the kind that is pre-made called pete's tofu to go. it rocks and there are recipes on the back of the box
Sandwich ideas:

Slice tofu thin and add tomato, red onion and mustard on whole wheat bread.

Mash with mustard and paprika to make eggless salad. Spread on bread with sliced tomato and lettuce.

Three Cheese Spinach Lasagna With Tofu Recipe

For a healthier version use low-fat mozzarella and cottage cheese. If you would like to freeze one of the pans for later use, put it in the freezer before cooking it and cook for an hour and 1/2 instead of 1 hour when you are ready to use it. This was modified from a recipe in Real People Cookin' Low Fat.

Ingredients:

3 (16 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce

1 1/2 cups water

2 bay leaves

1 tablespoon dried oregano leaves

crushed 1/2 tablespoon ground marjoram

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

1 lb tofu, drained %26amp; crumbled

4 cups mozzarella cheese

shredded 32 ounces cottage cheese or ricotta cheese

1/4 cup dried parsley

2 lbs fresh spinach

chopped 1 lb lasagna noodles (uncooked)

1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350掳F.

Bring spaghetti sauce and water to a boil; add next 5 seasonings if desired, and reduce heat to a simmer (sauce should still be a little runny when lasagna is assembled; the uncooked noodles will soak up the extra moisture).

While sauce is simmering, combine tofu, mozzarella, cottage cheese and parsely in a large mixing bowl and stir.

Assemble the lasagna as follows: (1) spray the bottom of two 13';x9';x2'; casserole pans with PAM and spoon in just enough sauce to cover the bottom (2) Place a layer of noodles on top of the sauce (3) spread 1/4 of the cheese mixture evenly over the noodles in each pan (4) sprinkle 1/4 of the spinach over the cheese (5) pour 1/4 of the sauce evenly over the top.

Repeat layers ending with sauce, and top with parmesan cheese.

Cover tightly with aluminum foil, and bake at 350F for 1 hour.
3 Tofu Marinades, Pressing Tofu * RATING * 5 out of 5 1 reviews

Keys : Asian Oriental

Ingredients :

None

Method :

* Pressing: Split the block lengthwise. lay several layers of paper towel on a flat surface; place the tofu cut side down on the towels, put another couple of layers of paper towel on top, cover with something flat and rigid

* (I use a cutting board) and place a weight on top (I use a gallon jug of brandy :-)

* I read somewhere that baking the tofu after pressing the water out and before marinating helps the tofu to absorb the marinade better. So, I cut up the tofu after pressing, then bake at 375 deg for 15 min. Then I put the tofu in the marinade, wait awhile, then stir fry or grill. Works great for me.

* let it sit for 45 minutes or longer; this presses out the excess water in the tofu, and makes it chewier and less likely to crumble. It can then be grilled or baked, or cut up for use in stir-fries. I usually marinate it after pressing. Here are a couple of marinades to get you started:

* 1) 1/2 cup light soy 1/2 cup dry sherry 2 tbs fresh grated ginger 2 cloves minced garlic

* 2. 1/2 cup fresh soy 1/2 cup lime juice 1 TBS ground cumin 1 TBS olive oil 2 serrano chiles, seeded and diced

* 3. 1 cup orange juice 3 tbs jamaican jerk sauce

As far as I'm concerned, the best way to make tofu is to not buy it in the first place, and if you have, throw it away. That stuff is gross! I am a health enthusiast and eat very healthy, but I can't do tofu. But, you may like it, you never know. If you don't then take what you have leftover and use it in a smoothee. Blend it with any fresh fruit, (bananas, peaches, blueberries etc.) , this way isn't toooo bad, but.......
