Tofu recipes? help please?

I have one tub of firm tofu in my frige. Does anybody know of something I could do to it so I could bring it into school for lunch today? (i. e. fry, marinade..)Tofu recipes? help please?
Here is something very simple to do. Tofu ';steaks'; - cut the block in half and then marinade them for a couple hours or overnight in teriyaki sauce or Italian dressing or any other kind of marinade and then broil them for a few minutes on each side. They turn out a little crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Serve with some rice and veggies.Tofu recipes? help please?
The Most Versatile Tofu Recipe in the World

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

1 medium potato

1 small/medium onion

1 garlic clove

5 cauliflower florets

4 stems or florets of broccoli

vegan chicken flavor seasoning (optional)

1/2 block firm tofu

olive oil

1 small jar of any vegan cooking sauce or a small batch of home-made vegan sauce*

Directions:

* This can be any sauce - a curry sauce such as masala or a Chinese-dish sauce such as sweet and sour! Any sauce works fine, as long as its not concentrate!

Peel the potato and cut into small cubes. Wash the cauliflower and broccoli and cut into smaller pieces.

Bring a pan of water to the boil, and throw in the potato. Cook for about 5 minutes and then add the rest of the vegetables. Boil until all vegetables are tender, with a slight bite (time of cooking will vary, but make sure the potato is in small pieces as it takes longer to cook.

Meanwhile, in a large frying pan, heat some olive oil- enough to fry the tofu and onions in. Go easy with it though, or you will have to drain excess oil before adding the sauce.

Drain any excess water from the tofu and cut into cubes. When the oil is hot, add the tofu. If you want the tofu to have a slight chickeny taste, sprinkle lightly with the seasoning whilst you fry. Stir fry until a light golden brown.

Add the onions and garlic.

When the vegetables are cooked, drain and put to one side.

Once the onions have lightly browned, add some of the sauce and stir well. Add the vegetables and mix well. Add more sauce- enough to cover the vegetables and tofu without drowning it. Stir occasionally until heated through.

Serve with rice.

This recipe/serving suggestion can be adapted in so many ways... organic veg, frozen or fresh veg, any flavor sauce. You can replace cauliflower or broccoli with maybe peas or carrots or replace potatoes with sweet potatoes (adjust boiling time as necessary).

FRIED TOFU %26amp; WATERCRESS SALAD

Ingredients

1 12-ounce package light, extra-firm tofu (fresh bean curd), drained

3 tablespoons tamari sauce or reduced-sodium soy sauce

1/3 cup rice vinegar

2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon Dijon-style mustard or 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup cooking oil

1/3 cup cornmeal

1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

2 teaspoons cooking oil

6 cups torn spinach

1 bunch watercress (about 1 1/2 cups)

1 cup sliced fresh button mushrooms or enoki mushrooms

1 cup red and/or yellow cherry tomatoes

1 medium red onion, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced

Directions

1. Cut tofu crosswise into eight 1/2-inch slices. In a 2-quart rectangular baking dish arrange slices in a single layer. Pour tamari sauce over tofu; turn slices to coat. Let stand for 15 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, for vinaigrette, in a blender container or food processor bowl combine vinegar, ginger, sugar, mustard, and salt. Cover and blend or process until combined. With blender or processor running, add the 1/3 cup oil in a thin steady stream. Blend or process for 15 seconds more.

3. Drain tofu, discarding tamari sauce. In a shallow dish combine cornmeal and sesame seeds. Carefully dip tofu slices in cornmeal mixture to lightly coat both sides. In a large nonstick skillet cook tofu in the 2 teaspoons hot oil for 5 to 6 minutes or until crisp and hot, carefully turning once. (You may need to cook tofu in two batches; avoid crowding the skillet.)

4. In an extra-large bowl combine spinach, watercress, mushrooms, tomatoes, and red onion. Pour the vinaigrette over spinach mixture; toss to coat. Divide among 4 dinner plates. Cut the tofu slices in half diagonally. Arrange the tofu over spinach mixture. If desired, sprinkle with additional sesame seeds. Makes 4 servings.

  • Good tofu recipes?

I know I can go on websites, but what are some personal recipes? Ones that you guys will make and eat. I'd like to know, because I'm not too keen on tofu and what not. I'm just trying to become a vegetarian. I still eat chicken and fish, but I want to give that up eventually...however, I really love Chinese food....so I'm trying some tofu, to see if I can get the same Chinese flavor, but no meat.

    Vegeterian BBQ-Tofu Sandwich

Buy extra firm Tofu, Slice into Cubes and let drain on paper towel

Heat oil in skillet and sautee tofu (I like my firm and hard)

Let the cooked tofu drain excess oil on a paper towel

Mix 1/2 bottle b-b-que sauce and spices together (ex: onion powder, garlic powder). Toss cooked tofu into b-b-que sauce

Cut pita pocket in half. Open the pita pocket and add a small amount of alfafa sprouts and shreeded carrots. Spoon in b-b-que tofu. Add additional sprouts/shredded carrots. Then add honey/dijion mustard salad dressing or ranch dressing. If youre

vegan add nasoya ranch dressing or anytime of vegan ranch/mustard salad dressing
I do several different things. My guy is not a vegetarian but he still enjoys them.

    1) Scrambled tofu - using a medium tofu I scramble it like eggs and gently saute in a pan with some butter (optional) and S %26amp; P, my fav herbs (basil, thyme)

    2) BBQ Tofu - Coat an entire log of tofu in your fav BBQ sauce and bake for 20 min. at 350. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 20 min. then slice across the corners creating chicken like slices. Recoat slices and rebake under broiler for 10-15 mins. Serve cooled on top of salad OR in a sandwich.

    3) Tofu Stirfry - Saute onions ,pepper, garlic in canola oil until tender. Remove from pan saving all fat and drippings in pan. Cube one pkg of tofu and place in pan with drippings adding s%26amp;p and more garlic or ginger as desired. Saute for 5 min until lightly golden. Remove from pan and continue adding vegetables and cooking till you have a stir fry then put all ingredients back in the pan with a small bottle of sesame ginger sauce.

    4) Tofu stew - saute cubed tofu with pepper strips, onions, garlic, ginger and coconut milk. When veggies are cooked add some coriander, s %26amp; p, curry powder, Thicken if desired with cornstarch mixed with water. Serve over rice.
i have chocolate tofu pie in the fridge right now!! take i package firm silken tofu and put it in the food processor or blender and go til smooth. melt 1 twelve oz. pack of choco chips and stir the 2 together. add dash of vanilla extract. beat 2 egg whites and fold into the mixture gently. put into your favorite pie crust and chill til firm, about 2 hours. enjoy! most meat eaters will eat this without knowing that it is tofu. if you have an immunity problem, used pastuerized egg whites to avoid any health issues
    Deep fried tofu kick's any meat's ***.
The only way I like tofu:

    BBQ Tofu:

    Ingredients:

    1 block of tofu, extra-firm

your favorite BBQ sauce (Jack Daniels is the best!!!)

    2 medium onions

    any other sandwich fixings

    Directions:

    1) On the day before you want to eat your BBQ, put the tofu in the freezer. I find by freezing the tofu, it has a more meaty texture. On the next day, thaw tofu and squeeze out all the water.

    ***This is very important***

    2) Slice it into whatever size you like.

    3) Cover bottom of a casserole dish with your favorite BBQ sauce. Put tofu in and coat with BBQ sauce. (The sauce will caramelize. Line the dish with foil and save yourself an hour doing dishes.)

    4) Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes, covered.

    5) Uncover and bake for 25 more minutes. Let cool.

    6) Saute onions. When tofu has cooled, eat as a sandwich with lettuce tomatoes.

Does anyone have short, simple and fast, easy recipes for Tofu.?

My daughter is a vegetarian so it can have no meat involved. Thanks!Does anyone have short, simple and fast, easy recipes for Tofu.?
Strain it, better if you let it sit and drain a while. I just cut the package and put on the dish rack to drain. Then cut up garlic and grate ginger. Put little extra virgin olive oil in wok (pan) and high heat, when hot add garlic and ginger. Oh, you can put a splash of soy sauce too if you want. Just a little. Subtle flavours. When getting a little brown, throw in blocks of tofu. Use spatula to slice tofu into thick pieces and lay them flat. Let them fry awhile (can put a lid on if you want), then flip them over and that's it. Done. Put it on her rice or veggies or whatever else she's eating. I do this almost every day and it's fast, easy. I have no time for anything fancier as I'm cooking for three and my daughter loves tofu.Does anyone have short, simple and fast, easy recipes for Tofu.?
This recipe is extremely easy and takes about five minutes.

    You need:

Firm/extra firm tofu (it doesn't matter how much)

    Soy sauce

    Sesame oil

    Pasta sauce (optional)

What you do is cut up the tofu into sticks about the size of fish sticks. Put them in a baking pan and pour soy sauce all over them. Drizzle some sesame oil over top. Bake them at 350 degrees for about 4 minutes. Eat them warm, or let them cool and dip them in pasta sauce. They make a great grab-and-go lunch!

Cook the spaghetti halfway. You don't want it to be mushy once you bake it.

While that's cooking, drain the box of tofu and put it into a medium/small bowl. Squish with a fork into small pieces.

Add the parsley, basil and garlic (add more of the spices you like best). I mix in a lot of all three. Blend with your fork but don't squish the tofu into too tiny of pieces.

Then, grate your mozzarella. Use 1/3 to 1/2 of a block of vegan gourmet mozzarella. Put aside.

Drain pasta. Put the pasta into the pan. Add all of the tofu ricotta mix. Mix them together.

Now pour your pasta sauce on top of the pasta/ricotta mixture. Pour a little more sauce than you think, so it doesn't dry out.

Mix all three ingredients well. You can even put some of the extra ricotta on top, if you had any left over.

Once you've mixed the pasta, ricotta and sauce so that it's equally spaced in the pan, simply add the vegan gourmet mozzarella on top. Use as much as you like.

It's important to spray the top of the cheese with your Pam or other oil spray. This makes the cheese on top melt smoothly and have a golden color when it's done.

Bake on high, at least 400 degrees (even up to 500) until it bubbles. Don't be afraid to let it cook until it bubbles and starts turning brown.

    Serves: 4

    Preparation time: 30 minutes

If your daughter eats cheese then you can use regular cheese and skip the PAM.

I like to add some mushrooms and black olives. Or you could even add some squash or eggplant to it.

Hope you, and your daughter, enjoy this....
Make her a stirfry with vegetables. I love those things.

What are good Firm Tofu recipes, to taste like meat? NO links please....keep it simple. Thanks.?

I could search on my own and nothing I have found is any different that what i already know...but with amino acids tasting like tamaari, I know that that is one way to garner the taste of Filet Mignon. yes, it is true...and yo can have twice the amount of tofu as you can regular meat suspect with all that they inject into animals, thus I am going vegetarian....so, Got a Recipe or Three? And PLEASE NO Legumes....white fish is alright tho no chicken. What are good Firm Tofu recipes, to taste like meat? NO links please....keep it simple. Thanks.?
First, it's important to drain your tofu for a good, long time if you want a meaty taste because it'll soak up the marinade better and take on much more flavor. After pressing it for a few minutes by hand, I wrap the pieces in paper towels, seal them in a ziploc bag, sandwich that between two plates, put a few pounds of weight on top, and leave the whole thing in the fridge overnight.

In the morning, I cut into smaller chunks (1'; long and 2'; wide or so鈥攕mall enough that the flavor can easily seep through, but not so small that they shrivel and fall apart when cooking), dump them into a container of either honey garlic sauce or vegetable broth, and let it sit in the fridge all day.

For non-breaded tofu, I'll fry it up in just enough olive oil so they don't burn to the pan, on medium heat, until they're a bit crispy and cooked through. This is an easy method because you can just mix them around in the pan every now and then, and not worry about cooking each side the same amount.

But if I want tofu nuggets, I'll coat them in a mixture of flour, breadcrumbs, and a bit of salt, and fry them in a whole lot of olive oil (enough so they're half-covered in it, but not so much that they're drowning), again on medium heat. Now this is when you have to take care with turning them over so that each side gets fried鈥攆or this reason, it's better to be cooking with slightly larger tofu chunks. Fry each side until brown and cripsy. I like eating them with salt to taste, but you could also dip them into any chicken nugget type sauce too.

This turned out to be a super long answer, but trust me, the recipes themselves really are quite simple! What are good Firm Tofu recipes, to taste like meat? NO links please....keep it simple. Thanks.?

Cut up the tofu into 1 inch strips, and place into a frying pan. Put on top of spaghetti with some sauce- an excellent and quick meal!
ooooh i know! I just went shepping at shnucks, and in the produce section, they have veggie dogs, veggie brauts (good cooked in barbecue sauce) BEST RECIPE: in the freezer section, there are morningstar faux chicken strips; get them, coat them in a mixture of 3 parts yellow mustard to 1 part water, then roll them in some flour mixed with pepper and a litle garlic powder, then fry in olive oil and don't forget to sprinkle on salt! Tastes so much like fried chicken...
I'm not quite sure you can make tofu taste like meat, but there are several soy products that really taste similar to meat. And you just need to fry them or add them to your favorite meals as regular (dead) meat. Anyway, go vegan! Remember, fish and chicken are animals too, and eating them is disgusting!
What I normally do with tofu is, I cut it up and put it in some noodles, with edamame (soybeans), scallions, and whatever vegetables I have around- carrots, broccoli, etc. I usually use either Annie Chun's or Simply Asia's noodle kits- they come in many different varieties, like szechuan or soy ginger.

I also will cut up tofu and put it in a bowl, then make a box of Green Giant vegetables (teriyaki or szechuan) and pour the hot vegetables over the tofu.

I only eat tofu raw though. For some reason, it feels too much like a wet sponge on my tongue when it's cooked.
I went vegan for a little over 4 years, now I am back to eating meat yet more picky. I was not getting enough protein so make certain you do.

What needs to be done with tofu to get the steak flavor is this...place a paper towel on top and bottom folded up like twice, place something heavy about the weight of hardback book on top to press out the moisture this will give it a nice firm texture, you may need to use fresh paper towel to get most of the moisture out. This can take 30 mins. or more. Then cut it into strips about a half inch or whatever you like. You can marinade it in different things for the flavor you want. I used Worcestershire and liquid smoke usually then you can either coat it with olive or sesame oil and bake or pan fry. One of favorites was to make it into stir fry with veggies with black bean sauce. Hope this helps

Anyone knows or has tried TOFU? How is it? Any recipes?

My daughter is allergic to milk, so she can't eat regular chesses. She can eat TOFU since is made with soy milk... Please let me know how it is, we haven't started it. Any recipes?

Thanks!Anyone knows or has tried TOFU? How is it? Any recipes?
I assume you're not from anywhere which has a high chinese population, because tofu is kinda like a staple for the chinese.

Tofu is also known as beancurd and is actually readily available in most Chinese supermarkets. Try looking around for it.

As for making it yourself, it can get rather tedious as you will have to soak soy beans overnight, grind them, bring to a boil, squeeze out the milk produced ... yadda yadda...

anyways, check out this website. gives you the lowdown on how to make it.

enjoy ur tofu :)Anyone knows or has tried TOFU? How is it? Any recipes?
Tofu has no flavor but it absorbs flavors like a sponge. Also tofu comes in different consistencies - soft, hard et. al. to be used in different ways. You can substitute tofu for any protein in any recipe.
    Crispy Tofu Fingers

vegetable spray for coating baking sheet

    12 ounces reduced fat tofu

1/2 cup thick sauce -- see note

    salt

    garlic powder

or other seasonings -- to taste

Note: use vegetarian oyster-style sauce, sweet and sour sauce, BBQ sauce or other favorite thick sauce.

    Original recipe used firm tofu.

Coat the cookie sheet with vegetable spray. Slice the tofu lengthwise, about 1/4 inch thick, and pat dry. Put the sauce in a dish, and dip each piece of tofu into the sauce, coating it well. Place the tofu on the cookie sheet in a single layer (pieces can be touching but should not overlap). Sprinkle on the seasoning, and bake at 350F for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how crisp you like your tofu. Halfway through the cooking time, flip to brown both sides.
I found a few sites and hope they help both of you. Take care.
I like cubed silk tofu on shaved ice with cantaloupe and honeydew, topped with honey. Makes for a nice snack.
its really really nice and healthy. U can cut them into cubes of 1 inch or bigger, then you stir fry them with some oil. it will taste gr8. or you can put them in soup in cubes, any kind of soup.

its not tasteless, i has a mild taste of soy beans. just try and taste for yourself.
My daughter hated tofu -she couldnt stand to chew it -When you try it make sure its covered up in something your daughter likes (lasagna)
    Curried Noodles with Tofu:

Coconut milk gives this meatless dish a velvety richness. Look for curry paste in the Asian foods section of your supermarket. Use it conservatively, though a little goes a long way.

6 ounces uncooked rice sticks (rice-flour noodles), angel hair pasta, or vermicelli

    1 cup light coconut milk

    1 tablespoon sugar

    2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

1 1/2 tablespoons bottled ground fresh ginger (such as Spice World)

    2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic

    1 teaspoon green curry paste

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    Cooking spray

1 (12.3-ounce) package extra-firm tofu, drained and cut into 1-inch cubes

1 cup red bell pepper strips

4 cups shredded napa (Chinese) cabbage

    1 cup chopped green onions

    3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Place noodles in a large bowl. Add hot water to cover; let stand 5 minutes. Drain.

Combine coconut milk, sugar, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, curry paste, and salt in a small bowl.

Heat a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray over medium-high heat. Add tofu; saut茅 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove tofu from pan; keep warm.

Add bell pepper to pan; saut茅 1 minute or until crisp-tender. Add cabbage; saut茅 30 seconds. Stir in noodles, coconut milk mixture, and tofu; cook 2 minutes or until noodles are tender. Stir in green onions and cilantro.

Yield: 4 servings (serving size: 1 1/4 cups)
It's fairly tasteless, but healthy and a very good source of protein.

TOFU is one of those things people like to act tastes good, just because its health. There are other things that taste way better and are much more health. I personally can't stand it! AWKE!
There are vegan soy cheese that you can typically use just like dairy cheese. They are soy but they're not tofu; they honestly taste a little odd, but they're not bad. Spend the money to get the more expensive kinds, they're worth it.

Also, the best and easiest use for tofu IMO is to use it in stir-fry recipes in place of or alongside other proteins.

I just mentioned to another user how I love to marinate tofu in soy sauce and Mongolian fire oil. After I'm done marinating it, I fry it up and add vegetable stir fry that I had made before.

I use frozen stir fry, but I'm sure it would taste better to cook the soba noodles and vegetables separately.

###I want to try tofu. What are some good recipes I should try?
The first time I tried tofu was in scrambled eggs, it made it easier to get used to and although there really is no taste it just looks bad but it has lots of protein.

Good Luck and if you are thinking about a vegan diet then this is one good choice for replacement protein.I want to try tofu. What are some good recipes I should try?
I normally cook my tofu with some fried minced meat (chicken or pork) although you can slice them too. Marinade the meat with some pepper, soya sauce, oyster sauce, a drop of dark soya sauce for color and a little cornflour. Fry the meat with a little oil and keep aside. Meantime, steam your tofu till cooked, spread the meat (including the oil) over it and garnish with spring onions, fried onions or crispy fried garlic. I like to slice a lot of garlic and fry them in oil till crispy and then bottle it (with the oil) for soups and vegetables.

If you don't want to steam the tofu, then I suggest you fry the meat, add some water for gravy and then add the tofu and break it up into pieces.

Tofu is bland so you need to spice up the flavour in order to enjoy.
try it in a stir fry, the weird thing about tofu is that it takes on the flavor of whatever it is cooked with, the texture is a little weird but maybe you will get used to it.
sorry that tofu has such bad name in this country (US). tofu is actually very versatile in form, taste and texture. unfortunately the tofu most American familiar with and recognized is the blend, soft and white square ones.

there are many ways you can cook tofu, stir fry, steam, fry, braise, soup. possibility is endless. my personal favorite is the Ma Po Tofu, it is hot and spicy, good with steam rice.

    http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/v鈥?/a>

you are right, tofu is a great source of protein, give it a try.
Tofu is wonderful in a vegetable stir fry. Cook the tofu until it gets light brown on the outside. It's really quite tasty.

I'd recommend Thai curry with tofu. My favorites are green and panang curries. Just order them ';mild'; for the baby.
If you are going to try tofu, first make sure that it is organic tofu. The non-organic kind is made from genetically modified soy beans, very bad for your baby.

There are better sources of protein. Check out the links below.
This is a great website for Tofu dishes. You could also take a look at the ';tofu cookery'; cookbook which has amazing recipes.

    in asian restaurants they often have a soup called ';miso soup';

it has tofu in it and it is tasty

that, and teryaki tofu is the only ways i have ever tried tofu and liked it
Tofu has no flavor itself. I use it in stirfry and lasagna in place of the meats. I like the texture though. You just chunk it up after draining it. Try recipes.com
Tofu should be used for Chinese cooking. Try Hot and Sour soup first because it is easy.
There are lots of great Asian dishes using tofu. Chinese, Japanese and Korean. I prefer the Korean preparation.

A simple thing I like to do is to slice it about a 1/4 inch thick, and fry it covered in egg. It's also good fry with some chicken or beef, as it really absorbs the flavour well.

But don't try to just eat it plain. It can be...weird if you've never tried it.
    Eat humus. It tastes better
It's good in some Chinese foods but i think it tastes the best in curries but not incredibly spicy curries.
i use it instead of meat, but add chicken or beef bullion to the recipe to give it the flavor of that meat...

I mostly use it in stir frying and the oils that I use are all the fat I need. makes for a healthy meal and I save tons of money on groceries.
I personally do not like tofu, but you can try this recipie.

    MARINATED TOFU

    3/4 c. Tamari

    3/4 c. water

2 to 3 tbsp. chopped fresh ginger

2 to 3 rounded tsp. chopped garlic (or to taste)

    1 to 1 1/2 lbs. Tofu (firm)

Combine first four ingredients in a container that you can seal. Cube Tofu and add to marinade. Marinate a day or two (in the refrigerator), turning occasionally. Remove Tofu to a cookie sheet (I spray cookie sheet with Pam). Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, turn Tofu and bake to desired browness.

Experiment with amount of garlic/ginger, size of cubes, browness, etc. You can reuse the marinade one or two times, but keep it refrigerated. (This marinade is good with chicken, too!)
DONT EVEN TRY TOFU IS IS SO NASTY

I think tofu is all about texture and there are a number of different ways to cook it depending on the texture you like. You can dry it out and cook over a high heat for something more ';steak'; like or on the other hand, freeze it and have a creamier texture that really holds a marinade. Here is a pretty interesting recipe that demonstrates some basic preparation concepts. Some gnarly vegan recipes which use silken tofu?

I have a package in the fridge, but don't want to open it until I think of something other then vegan French toast to use it for.

Thankies!!!Some gnarly vegan recipes which use silken tofu?
You should cut or break it into smaller pieces and marinade it in soy sauce, agave nectar, sliced ginger, and minced garlic for at least 20 minutes. Stir fry in coconut or olive oil until cooked or browned. Add cooked rice and cooked vegetables for delicious stir fry.

It's also a good egg replacer for brownies, but that won't use a whole container.

I heard you can make scrambled ';eggs'; with it, but I don't like those in the first place so I've never cooked silken tofu that way. Some gnarly vegan recipes which use silken tofu?
Something that's yummy and suuuuuper simple is to blend up the tofu with some chocolate chips. The result is a vegan chocolate mousse that is to DIE for!!! :)
Substitute the chicken in this recipe with the tofu. Simply dice it up, brown it and combine with everything else. Delicious!

    Fried Tofu

This makes a quick and easy snack, and is good served with grilled veggies and soft tortilla wraps, or with your favourite dipping sauces.

    Ingredients

    2 tbsp olive oil

    1 tsp sesame oil

1 packet of frozen tofu, defrosted

    dash soya sauce

    Method

Heat the oil in a frying pan. Thinly slice the tofu and fry until golden brown. Just before serving, add the soya sauce and season to taste.

    Notes

Tofu which has been frozen then defrosted has a nice chewiness to it (and freezing is a convenient way of storing the tofu if you haven't got a good local supply).

    2 c. vegetable broth

    2 c. diced celery

    1 tbsp. celery seed

    cranberry sauce

    2 cloves minced garlic

    2 tbsp. marjoram

    1 c. diced mushrooms

    1 c. diced onions

    1/2 c. fresh minced parsley

    2 tbsp. savory

    1/2 c. sesame oil

    3/4 c. soy sauce

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

    Mash tofu in a bowl.

Line a colander with a clean, wet cheesecloth, add tofu and cover with overlapping cheesecloth. Put a plate on top of the covered tofu, put a 5-lb. weight on top of the plate, and set aside for one hour.

Saute onions, celery, mushrooms and garlic in 2 tbsp. of the sesame oil, over medium heat.

Add sage, marjoram, thyme, savory, rosemary, celery seed, pepper and 1/4 c. of the soy sauce. Cover and cook five minutes, or until vegetables are tender.

    Stir-Fried Tofu With Chinese Mustard

    1 1/2 tbsp. soy sauces

    1/4 tsp. Asian chili-garlic sauce

1 tbsp. dry sherry or Shaoxing cooking wine

    2 tbsp. raw peanuts

1 large bunch Chinese mustard greens - washed, ends trimmed, and chopped

1 tbsp. peanut oil or vegetable oil

    2 tsp. cornstarches

12 oz. block extra-firm (preferably Nigari) tofu

1 tbsp. rice vinegars or plain vinegar

In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, vinegar, sherry, sugar, 2 tbsp. water, and chili-garlic sauce. Whisk in cornstarch and set aside.

Drain tofu and pat dry with paper towels. (If your tofu isn't really firm, put a plate on the tofu, weight the plate with a can, and let the water drain out for 10 minutes.)

Slice the tofu block in half lengthwise, to create two smaller rectangles, then into 录-inch slices.

Heat the oil in a well-seasoned or nonstick wok over medium-high to high heat.

Add the peanuts and stir-fry until golden. Remove from the wok with a slotted spoon.

If there's less oil in the wok now, add a little more.

Add the tofu to the wok. Shake it around to distribute the oil and let fry for a few minutes undisturbed. When the tofu is golden on one side, turn it over and fry the other side.

Remove the tofu from the wok.

Add the greens, in batches if necessary, to the wok. Stir-fry until wilted (this will only take a minute or so).

Whisk the sauce to redistribute the cornstarch.

Put the tofu back in the wok and toss with the sauce and greens to combine. Turn down the heat to medium and cook a minute or two more, until the tofu and greens are well coated with the sauce and the greens are tender.

Garnish with the peanuts and serve.

    Fried Tofu with sauce

    tofu, extra firm

    olive oil

    onions (optional), sliced or chopped

soya sauce (Bragg brand is best!)

    water

nutritional yeast, such as Engivita yeast (available at health food stores)

Slice tofu into ';steaks.'; I do this by slicing the brick into slabs about 0.5'; (1.25cm) thick. If you prefer, you can cube the tofu. I like the steaks!

Heat frying pan to medium heat, then drizzle olive oil over entire bottom surface %26amp; sides. Add the sliced tofu. If you are using onions, add them now, too. Allow to brown slightly on one side, then turn and brown the second side.

In a cup or glass, mix 1 part soy sauce to 1 part water. For your first batch, try using a regular-sized coffee mug. Pour this liquid over your browned tofu.

While the liquid is still bubbling, sprinkle nutritional yeast over the entire panful of tofu %26amp; liquid. You are basically trying to use enough to make a thin paste.

Stir, or move tofu around in such a way that the liquid and yeast combine thoroughly. Turn tofu if needed to ensure that there is no dry yeast left anywhere.

Continue cooking on medium heat for about 3-5 minutes more, or until the sauce thickens into a gravy-like texture.

Serve hot, over rice or potatoes!

    1 tsp. of salt

    Dash of red pepper

1 (12 oz.) package of extra firm tofu

    Vegetable oil for frying

    Barbecue sauce for dipping

Drain the tofu and cut into 1-inch cubes.

Beat flour and water with a whisk in a mixing bowl.

Mix bread crumbs, salt and red pepper in a separate mixing bowl.

Maintaining one hand for the dry mixture and the other for the wet mixture, dip each tofu cube into the wet batter and then roll it in the bread crumb mixture.

Heat about a half inch of vegetable oil in your skillet over medium high heat. Fry each nugget for about 30 seconds on each side, or until golden brown throughout. Only fry about ten to fifteen nuggets at a time.

Drain fried nuggets on paper towels and let cool about 2 minutes. Serve with barbecue sauce for dipping.

    1/3 cup water

Roll tofu into the flour and pan fry in olive oil until golden and crispy.

Serve with salad and dipping sauce: rice wine vinegar, lemon, sesame oil, chilli %26amp; a tiny splash of soy.

Hope that helps! What are some good recipes for tofu?
Had one vegan daughter and one vegetarian daughter...everyone LOVES this recipe and I now make it at Thanksgiving all the time and have taken it to potlucks too with great success. Yes, tofu without seasoning or preparation takes pretty awful.

Easy prep since not much to do to the tofu, and most tofu recipes require pressing, etc.

    Butternut Squash Tofu Bake

Peel and seed a large butternut squash (about 2lbs)

    Cut into cubes about 1';

    Cut a big square of tofu into cubes about 1';

1/2 c of olive oil mixed with about 3T soy sauce

Fresh or dried rosemary, 1-2 T, sprinkled over

A big head of garlic, several cloves, peeled and placed whole in pan

Toss all together. Place in large metal (preferred but ceramic will work) rectangular cake pan, cover with tin foil. Bake at 375 about 30 min until squash pretty tender, then remove foil and bake about another 15 min.

I'm doing this from memory but it's so easy, hard to mess up.
    tofu and Black Beans Salad

    1 1/2 cups tofu (small disk-shaped seeds)

1 1/2 cups cooked black beans, rinsed, if canned

    1 1/2 tablespoons red-wine vinegar

1 1/2 cups cooked corn (cut from about 2 large ears)

3/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper

2 pickled jalpeno chilies, seeded and minced (wear rubber gloves)

1/4 cup finely chopped fresh coriander

    For dressing

5 tablespoons fresh lime juice, or to taste

    1 teaspoon salt

1 1/4 teaspoons ground cumin, or to taste

    1/3 cup olive oil

    Directions

In a bowl wash tofu in at least 5 changes cold water, rubbing grains and letting them settle Before pouring off most of water, until water runs clear and drain in a large fine sieve. In a saucepan of salted boiling water cook quinoa 10 minutes. Drain tofu in sieve and rinse under cold water. Set sieve over a saucepan of boiling water (quinoa should not touch water) and steam tofu , covered with a kitchen towel and lid, until fluffy and dry, about 10 minutes (check water level in kettle occasionally, adding water if necessary). While tofu is cooking, in a small bowl toss beans with vinegar and salt and pepper to taste. Transfer quinoa to a large bowl and cool. Add beans, corn, bell pepper, jalapeno, and coriander and toss well. Make dressing: In a small bowl whisk together lime juice, salt, and cumin and add oil in a stream, whisking. Drizzle dressing over salad and toss well with salt and pepper to taste. Salad may be made 1 day ahead and chilled, covered. Bring salad to room temperature before serving.
